1967 Ducati 350 Sebring
I purchased this Late 60's
Ducati 350 in 2012 from Newberry Springs, CA. A desert find,
this beauty was completely rusted out from the son of the second
owner of the bike. From my time in California, I had some access
to excellent products and parts and began the restoration
immediately. My design idea was to make small and tasteful
modifications from the original to make it very rideable and
look a bit more like a traditional cafe restoration.
I had excellent mechanics work
on the bike as I did the rebuild. I had Motorcycle Dynamics
Racing (Escondido, CA) put a new stem and front end in the bike.
The original forks were completely shot and I sought a new
stance anyway. I used an 80's Kawasaki donor for this transfer
upon MDR's recommendation. I had David Harris at Zen House
(Point Arena, CA) do the whole engine rebuild. The complete
bottom end guts needed replacement and the top end was
completely rebuilt. At this time I moved away from CA and found
it really difficult to find mechanics willing to work on the
bike alongside me. I did the CDI and 12V upgrade to the bike
which helped reliability. It wasn't until about 10 years later
that I found another mechanic, Blue Cat Motorcycle (St. Paul,
MN) where I finished the electrical and carb upgrade, which is a
brand new Amal.
Last I ran the bike was two
years ago, but I have regularly checked fluids and completed
basic maintenance. The mechanic at Blue Cat said the bike ran
fantastic. So much so, that he asked to purchase the bike. The
tank is original and red coated inside, but dented on one side.
At this point I have about $10k
into the restoration. I am a hobby classic car mechanic and this
project was too much for me to begin with. I am glad I saved the
bike from the dump - but now four kids and 15 years later, I am
skeptical I will ever find the time to finish the project and do
it justice.
I am asking $5,000.
