1978 900SS Under 6k miles
This one is a ‘78 bevel drive
Ducati that was delivered with the later Bosch ignition Darmah
motor (without a starter motor of course) and gold Speedline
wheels, but with the silver frame and body work. Wire wheels
have replaced the speedlines now as you can see. They were built
up on NOS Ducati hubs with new Borrani 4777 rims and polished
Buchanan stainless spokes. The speedlines are included with the
bike if wanted.
This is a low mileage
mostly original bevel drive with less than 5900 miles that I have owned
since ’96. This bike is in great
condition. It spent most of the time that I have owned it in the San
Francisco California area. The bike has never been restored, but has always
been well maintained, with the oil changed every 500 miles, cleaned after
all rides, etc.
The original body work had
been painted metallic green when I got it, but is all original components.
The frame is still the original silver, and the forks & triple clamp are
original textured black & in great shape. I had planned on repainting it
back to the original silver but I found that I really liked it in the
metallic green so kept it that way.
The bars, switchgear,
controls, and dash are original and in excellent condition. The engine has
never been out of the frame and is a strong runner.
The bike
has a few modifications from original, the big one being the metallic green
bodywork. The other modifications are Fox rear shocks, Gustaffson tinted
wind screen, Dyna ignition coils & wires, a gear gazer, and a zerc fitting
installed in the swingarm when it was re-bushed and line bored at Syd’s
Cycles. Syd’s also set up the timing. The current tail light is the earlier
round CEV light. The original screen, tail light, and coils are also
included with the bike if wanted.
It has
Dell'Orto PHM 40’s with Conti mufflers. Recent maintenance items are new
pickup wiring from the crankcase for the Bosch ignition, new chain and rear
sprocket, carbs rebuilt, new battery, and rebuilt front and rear brakes. The
brake rebuilds include rebuilt calipers with Brembo aluminum pistons and new
internals for the master cylinder. New stainless lines were installed as the
original lines were deteriorating. I have always used and currently have
Avon AM22/AM23 vintage race tires on the bike. The front is 110/80 sprint
compound and the rear is the 130/650VB18.
This bike
has always been a great running & riding machine. I used to run it in the
Sunday Morning Ride out of Mill Valley and it was always a strong runner and
put a huge grin on my face.
It is
only being sold because I am in my mid 70s and can’t safely ride it anymore.
