DUCATI GP1 four cylinder-engine

With an "extremely radical interpretation of the twin-idea" Ducati-Corse-Director Claudio Domenicali is going to keep the Duc-Dogma -grid-tube-frame (don't know the English spelling, here it means the motorcycle frames, like on the Pantah racers (F2)), Desmodromic, 90-degree-L-engine - also on the GP1 racer in 2003 and, nevertheless surmount the expected lack of power of a V2, compared to the multi-cylinder competitors.

Result: A 90-degree-L-four cylinder, with simultaneous ignition on the lying and standing cylinders, so it is a double parallel twin. First tests will be made in February 2002. The new racer is not the first Quattro Ducati. After the Apollo-prototype of 1964, Fabio Taglioni experimented in 1976 with a V4-Desmo-engine.

Picture text: Parallels to history: There was already in 1976 a V4-Ducati. 27 years later comes the GP1-racing engine.
